What is DIY?

Do It Yourself or "D.I.Y." Real Estate is a new and innovative way to sell your own home. DIY Real Estate allows you to list your property on the MLS® for a nominal fee and offers you "a la carte" services to help you sell your home.

Some things to Know about Real Estate Sales using the MLS®.

The MLS® system is designed to expose homes that are for sale, to as many real estate agents as possible. Agents are motivated to sell homes listed on the MLS® in part because of a pre-determined understanding of remuneration (payment) established amongst the members of the various Real Estate Boards that use the MLS® as a marketing tool across Canada. In other words, they have a pretty clear understanding of how much they'll get paid and how they'll be paid if they sell a home that is listed on the MLS®. To that end, the DIY Real Estate System relies on this effective selling incentive and therefore has a policy of complete co-operation with the Realtors that represent the buyer.

A typical "Buyer's Commission" is 2.5% . The Agent representing the purchaser of your home will produce his own contract for you to sign, establishing the buying commission and the terms of payment which are usually paid on the completion of the sale or "on closing" as it is sometimes referred to. The agent will typically ask you to sign the contract prior to the Offer Presentation.
